  IHRA Australia Update

Wednesday 3rd August 2022

Good afternoon to our valued IHRA Australia competitor,

Following on from yesterday’s announcement, we would like to offer an update on how this all works moving forward and what this means for you, the racer.

With everything now being processed here in Australia, we have been able to work out a pricing structure that is sustainable for the sport to continue and grow and offer returns in the sport moving forward. IHRA Australia is committed to providing investment back into the sport with the input and dedicated knowledge and passion of our team in the organisation.

As a result, the following Fee structure will apply (Australian Dollar)

Junior Dragster/ Dragbike   1 Year = $70
Sportsman / Street    1 Year = $140
Real Street   1 Year = $75
Sportsman Licence    1 Year = $250
Professional    1 Year = $350

IHRA Australia will still offer two-and three-year discounted rates as per the brand-new online licence renewal process, available now for all competitors to conveniently use to renew their licence, preferably 2-3 weeks prior to expiry to ensure streamlined processing. This negates the need to handwrite applications, making this process more user-friendly. It can still be found on the IHRA Australia Website under Competitor Forms. https://www.ihra.com.au/competitors-forms.html

We will also allow Sportsman medicals to be valid for three years until the age of 50, when they will be reduced to two years. Professional categories will continue to be two years. Any competitor that has supplied an IHRA medical after January 1, 2022 will be given a 12-month extension to their medical expiration date.

The day-to-day running of the business will still operate under IHRA Australia with no changes being made to the name or the logo as we have known it over the last seven years. Racers will shortly be receiving their brand new IHRA Australia hard card as their new licence. You will still receive an emailed soft copy until your hard card arrives in the post, approx. 7-14 days. Kim Powell will still be assisting in the role of Admin/Licencing.

As announced yesterday, a new downloadable rulebook is currently under construction and we hope to deliver this shortly for everyone’s convenience as a high priority. We will provide a further update asap.

Tim Nielsen will still be handling the technical department and his contact details are available through the website.

I will continue to act as CEO of the company and look forward to working with you all. If you feel you need to reach out, I can be emailed at mallen@ihra.com

In further housekeeping, the Head Office has been relocated from Melbourne to Queensland and our new Admin/Licencing contact phone number is 07 5324 1360, for all enquiries moving forward.

Any correspondence should be addressed to IHRA Australia Pty Ltd, PO Box 200, Coolum Beach, Qld 4573.

Yours in Drag Racing

Australian Drag Racing League Purchases IHRA Australia

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – ADRL Pty Ltd has completed a purchase of the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Australia from IRG Sports + Entertainment (IRGSE). Maurice Allen, a veteran motorsports professional, is the president of the Australian Drag Racing League.

Allen previously served as managing director for IHRA Australia. He brings a wealth of experience to Australia’s No. 1 drag racing organization, which serves as home to both professional and sportsman racing. Under Allen’s leadership, IHRA Australia expanded to over 3,500 members.

“We’ve listened and the desire to have an Australian sanctioning body has been delivered, which represents a great opportunity for the sport to move ahead and grow even more with exciting new opportunities,” Allen said.

Allen began his motorsports career as a Pro Stock motorcycle racer at the age of 20 and later set up the Australia Dragbike School. Prior to joining the IHRA, Allen was the CEO of Australian Professional Drag Racing (APDR) — 400 Thunder, Australia’s premier drag racing series sanctioned by the IHRA.

“This announcement puts drag racing in Australia in a great position to bring direct returns to the biggest stakeholders in the sport, being the passionate racers that support both the tracks and the sanctioning body,” Allen said. “We are excited to be able to implement some direct benefits such as replacing the Australian Supplementary Rulebook app with a dedicated downloadable rulebook on the web, which is currently under construction, simplifying the process, along with a brand new hard card for all competitors moving forward."

IHRA Australia operates at seven different facilities and sanctions the country’s largest drag racing events and series, which include the Aeroflow 400 Thunder Professional and Sportsman Championship Series as well as the Australian Top Fuel Championship.

While IHRA Australia operates other professional classes, it is also the country’s top organization for grassroots, Sportsman racing. For IRGSE, it was important to find someone with both the knowledge and the commitment to carry on the country’s great tradition of drag racing.

“Maurice has done a phenomenal job over his seven years as the IHRA Australia managing director. With his hands-on approach and vast knowledge of the Australian drag racing scene, he is the most qualified person to take over the ownership of the organization and continue the proud tradition of championship racing," IRGSE CEO Lou Partenza said.

Allen stated this was the first time "Bowden's Own: had committed to a full season of drag racing in Australia.

To further compliment this announcement, "Bowden's Own" has also become the naming rights sponsor for the newly incepted IHRA Real Street category for the next 12 months, with detailing kits on offer for every winner of every round at every IHRA Australia facility that runs the category. This is such a positive step undefined for a category making its championship debut at the Winternationals this year and we can't thank "Bowden's Own" enough, commented Allen, for getting behind the sport of drag racing and, of course, IHRA Real Street running in the 400 Thunder Championship Drag Racing Series next season.

In a statement from "Bownden's Own" Nicholas Granger went on to say. Bowden's Own Car Care is thrilled to be launching a partnership with IHRA for the 2022/23 season. The Bowden's Own Real Street category really draws on our passion for clean cars that get driven and raced. We can't wait for the winner of each round of the Real Street category, as well as the winners of every Premier and Sportsman class at the Winternationals, to receive a bucket kit of our incredible Australian-Made products to spil their ride. IHRA STATEMENT

In the overall interest of the sport and the parties involved, IHRA seeks to correct several untrue public statements made regarding this week's settlement of the Supreme Court of New South Wales (Court) legal proceedings in respect to Sydney Dragway.

From the outset, IHRA affirmed its position communicated in writing to the previous Western Sydney International Dragway (WSID) board, initially on 6 July 2021 and throughout, that retort to legal action was its absolute last resort.

The previous WSID board's continued response was to provide assurances that it had not entered into any discussions or agreements with ANDRA, which in evidence before the court was shown not to be true.

The previous WSID board's shift to ANDRA was calculated and premeditated.

A letter of intent and confidentiality deed was signed between WSID and ANDRA in July 2021 (at the same time, IHRA was advised in writing this was not the case).

At that time, WSID's previous board was not only aware of the likelihood of a legal proceeding commencing but had sought assurances from ANDRA that it would "pay for all costs" should IHRA pursue a claim for loss of revenue.

IHRA was notified on 29 September 2021 that the previous WSID board had unilaterally and unlawfully terminated its agreement and entered into a deal with ANDRA, despite a legally binding and exlusive contract with IHRA remaining in place until 31 December 2023.

On 20 October 2021, IHRA issued proceedings in the Court, and IHRA's solicitors also wrote to ANDRA that day, putting them on notice of the potential impact of these proceedings on their purported agreement.

ANDRA was also copied into all court documents and attended the initial hearing in November 2021. It is not true ANDRA was not aware of the proceedings and what IHRA was seeking.

The above is a disappointing reflection on those involved and establishes the unfortunate factual situation IHRA was confronted with during this period. IHRA did not want to initiate legal action but had no option but to do so.

IHRA regrets the unavoidable impact this issue has had on many members but congratulates the new WSID board for the responsible and professional way it has managed this issue in the interests of Sydney Dragway.

As its exclusive sanctioning body until 31 December 2024, IHRA looks forward to working with the new WSID board, event promoters, and all key stakeholders to grow the sport and the prominence of Sydney Dragway into the future.

IHRA welcomes the opportunity for Top Fuel Australia and others to operate unders its sanction at Sydney Dragway and accross all IHRA sanctioned venues on the eastern seaboard in a strategic and connected approach while providing an exciting platform for the future growth of the sport.
